COF: CU Boulder Education Abroad programs are not COF-eligible nor will the credit earned count toward the 145 lifetime credit limits.

Non-Resident Fee: State of Colorado policy requires that non-residents must pay more than residents for CU Boulder credit. As such, Education Abroad program Fees for non-residents include an additional charge, currently set at $1800. The fee is subject to change and is used to suport CU Boulder Education Abroad. The fee does not apply to CU Boulder Global Intensives.

Items included in the Program Fee

Instructional costs, housing (premium cabin) & three meals daily on the ship, supplemental fuel fee, international health insurance, and administrative fee to CU Boulder Education Abroad.

Items included in the Estimated Costs

Field trips and practica, travel to the port of embarkation and from the port of debarkation, lodging and meals off the ship when it is in port, visa and/or port of entry fees, passport fees, books, local transportation, and personal expenses. NOTE: The cost estimates do not include personal travel.

Fee Exceptions

  • For students who choose to stay in a less expensive cabin, your CU Boulder account will be credited. For students who choose to stay in a more expensive cabins, your CU Boulder account will be charged. The appropriate adjustment will be applied to your account upon receipt of notification from the Institute of Shipboard Education. Also, for students receiving Institute for Shipboard Education financial assistance, your CU Boulder account will be credited by the amount of the award upon receipt of notification from the Institute for Shipboard Education.
  • You are responsible for payment of an additional application fee and deposit, payable directly to Semester at Sea.
  • Semester at Sea's fuel fee (currently set to $1850) is subject to change depending on global cost fluctuations. Should any additional fuel surcharges charges be incurred, students will be billed by Semester at Sea and must pay these additional fees directly.

If for any reason you withdraw before or during the course of the program, CU Boulder Education Abroad and Semester at Sea must be notified in writing. You are responsible for the corresponding withdrawal fee based on the date of your withdrawal. Any fees paid directly to Semester at Sea, such asoptional add-ons or additional fees, are not included in the withdrawal fee schedule and may or may not be refunded by Semester at Sea.

Education Abroad Program Fee: This is the amount you will be billed by CU Boulder.
